Week Seven - Friday

We came together with our ideas and shared them:
- City scavenger hunt
- Shipping container
- "Phone boxes" around Wellington for people to connect
- Create a company which helps to fund workplace culture events.
- We identified common places people go/have to go: the supermarket, Lambton Quay, Cuba Street, Courtney Place etc and wondered if there was a way to target people there.
- We thought a lot on the supermarket place and came up with lots of different ideas but realised that a lot of people wouldn't like this interruption at the supermarket, and that the ideas we were having weren't very refined.
- We identified prime time of 4-7pm and weekends.

We went ahead with the idea of creating a company to encourage workplace culture and brainstormed heaps:

We have have made noted heaps of ideas and made heaps of developments today and plan to meet up over the weekend to refine and prototype.

Existing Resources

I had a look around to find whats out there already and this is what I found:

Tinder Social

Friendable

The White Buffalo Project

REAL (app)

MomCo

Movit

Meet-Up

Nearify

City Socializer (NYC only)

Monarq (women only)

I also found a bunch of blogs about people saying how hard it is to make friends once you leave school etc. This confirmed our problem and was fun to read lots of takes on the issue.
I found the three common things friendships need is:
- Proximity
- Repeated and unplanned interactions
- Privacy / confiding in each other

Week Seven - Tuesday

In class today we had a lecture and were shown previous iterations for this class:
DOOFS - Childrens game to promote getting active
Mealtime - A means for students do jobs for home owners and get paid with a meal
Nanas Nails - Students do nails for people in an old folks home 'nanacure'
We then spoke about primary research and that our 3 prototypes should address our insights.

Back in the studio we broke into small groups to go over what we had found over the holidays. Katie and I presented a Coke campaign A Friendly Twist. We then chose one and got to see the best of the class in the presentation space. One that stood out for me in particular was Guns With A History I think it's such a great idea and stops people before more damage is done.

During our studio time together we got to thinking about IDEAS - especially as we needed to decide on our direction and prototype it all in time for interim presentation next week. Because the brief was so new to me we decided it would be best to go away and ideate and then come back and make some strong decisions on Friday.

Re-grouping

Having struggled each in our own ways over the break, Katie & Lauren decided to team up with me to move forward with the Sh!t @ social interaction brief as a stronger, fresher group. By combining forces we will be able to support each other more and introduce fresh ideas.

Our individual original blogs are here:

But moving forward we will be all be contributing through this blog to demonstrate our thinking and processes responding to this brief.
