Week Eight - Friday

Sam - Today's studio began in the Pit with a lecture from Elizabeth Goodwin and then moved up to studio. We sat down and discussed what we needed to do to start making some real progress and get to more prototyping and testing stages. Katie worked on the logo (with Lauren and I giving our input each time she had something new to show us) until we finally reached something we could all agree on! Lauren worked on brainstorming for our video and I worked on a write up about us at the same time.
Here's the write up:

Who we are:

Project Boost is a start-up facilitation company.
We promote improved workplace productivity and culture through the engagement of employees’ in monthly social activities.
As the new kids on the block, our goal is to engage employers with our fun and simple approach.

What we do:

As facilitators, each month we come to our Project Boost businesses with a selection of potential activities. It is then over to them to let us know which activity they would like to participate in for that month. We handle all the arrangements for planning and booking the event and then forward these details through to the employer, so that all they have to do is get themselves and their employees’ to come along.

These activities are available to all Project Boost businesses, which creates not only inner workplace interactions, but also interactions across a diverse range of businesses.

After the end of each financial year (April) is the annual highlight, the “Amazing Race”. This involves each businesses competing together as a team against other businesses within Project Boost.

The logistics:

We have a base fee of $200 a month, with event costs being arranged by quote. Invoices are sent out monthly and can also be viewed on their account page on the website.

Sam - we then sat down to chat with Jason again about our progress/development. He really liked the package idea and that we had identified that our point of difference was our focus on well-being and our young, fun, creative approach. He mentioned that we needed to make the packaging an experience and mentioned the phone holograms which I have seen before - I showed these to the girls and we were really interested in the idea of trying this. If we were do put these in the boxes this would then give us an excuse to come back as we would need to collect the device/iPad.

We concluded the day each with homework tasks:

Sam - box mock ups
Lauren - hologram video test
Katie - website mock ups

Website - Week Eight

I started working on the website design from the one we drafted on the Sunday. We decided on a style but to make it more professional. We all really liked the image below we thought it was quite fun, bright and energetic. So then I started on the photoshop file of the document, I started off getting the basic formation of the original website setup we had but then I noticed it wasn't quite working.
AND if we continued with that design it would just become way to messy, Our whole entire design is making it easy bright and fun.

I mentioned this to Sam and talked to her about getting rid of the side menus, and changing into having headers and footers on the website instead.

Week Eight - Logo Development

Sam - We all stayed after class today to continue working on the project. We wanted to work on the image/branding and felt it was important to therefore get a logo. We all designed concepts, then shared, then designed more but hit a brick wall and decided to leave it for today and reassess on Friday.
Here are my concepts:

Week 8 Tues - Interim

Sam - This morning we got prepared for our interim presentation, our official presentation was scheduled for 10:30 with Jason. We participated with the group before us and then brought him over to our station where we had a desk and chair set out for him with a curtain backdrop for us to present in front of. He really enjoyed the pitch and our video but pushed us to think about what our point of difference is. He also pointed out that our pitch pretty much covered the same information that an employer should've had beforehand and that business people are busy and we need to use their time wisely. We made good moves by coming to our employer and promoting the ease. He was able to tell us that off the top of  his head our market is about 70% - and that our best market sits in the med-large company size. He also told us of some existing companies with the same idea: Improvisers, and Catapault. So we looked into these:

What we noticed with these is that they were very boring and focused around team building and leadership, whereas we are looking more at employee wellbeing and how this will positively affect work productivity.

We re-thought about our initial contact method and came up with the idea of delivering a package/box like an exciting present to the business. We brainstormed this idea:

Katie - We looked at the goodie box and black box as examples of what is already existing.

We would put in a 'faux' personalised message in each box, which is the same thing like what Kylie sends in her lip kits.

Sam - we then ran this idea past some of our peers to get their take and got some feedback:
They liked the idea of a package and wondered how it would get delivered - would we hand deliver or address and send?
They also had an idea where we could organise with the boss to come in for a 5 minute pick me up to surprise the staff whether we do this as well as the box or instead of came into question.
The idea of doing something monthly is positive as it keeps the hype continuous.
It also creates good conversation between businesses - "did you get one?", "what was in yours?" and this could lead to social sharing that we would somehow initiate and incentivise, it also introduces the b2b competition we promote for the annual Amazing Race event.

From this we kinda put our best ideas together and ran our project by Donald who gave us more great feedback:
In terms of our name he suggested considering dropping the "Project" and just being called "Boost" as the word project formalises it more than maybe necessary.
He really liked the idea of the packages and didn't see any issues with them in NZ - they wouldn't need to be considered as bomb threats etc.
Using the website to see upcoming events/being able to connect with other "buddy" businesses would be great.
