We had an hour this morning before supercrit started and so we all brought together our bits for presentation/feedback.
I prepared a quick intro to set up the situation for feedback that just covered the fact that we're addressing the issue of stress in the city, responding specifically to young professional's who are wrapped up in their full time work. Our two main goals are to improve the "connect" and "be active" aspects of well being through our business: Project Boost.
We then had 4 parts to show/explain:
Our journey map, the package (which had a business card, informative flyer, hologram tool, and a little workplace game - like a mini basketball hoop), this should lead them to the website, and then therefore the video.
this is the package we presented
and here's an example of how the hologram worked with a placeholder video
Our first feedback session was with Gina from LifeHack:
- who are you sending the package to? It should depend on the business and the situation of that business (the owner, the manager, the HR manager etc).
- is there an opportunity to connect with an HR company and create a partnership relationship?
- validate the choices - talk to employers for real life feedback and find out whether they already do fun stuff with their employees, and if they do whether it's easy/convenient
Gina told us about Coliberate, a business that is similar to ours that focus's on wellbeing of people. We had a look at there website and it was pretty poor. It wasn't exciting, it didn't insight happiness to us. And also is was a very very glitchy website.
We then had our feedback with Tim - we wanted to feedback with him as we haven't yet tested our idea on him:
-he thought it felt professional and loved it but wasn't clear on the where to? How do you sign on? What are the activities?
- it felt a lot like direct marketing and more of a pushy sell, it shouldn't need the hard sell if the concept/idea is there.
- we should explain what these events are, and they're great for "these" reasons
- the website is visually great but there is too much text
- he felt that the items in the package were gimmicky and not needed, and the game especially turned him off
After this feedback session we all felt really stressed out because the feedback was so against what we'd done. He did say however to take his feedback with a grain of salt as the tutors we've been working with could have different opinions.
Phoebe then came in for more feedback:
- she suggested that the link between what's in the package and what we are all about needs to be stronger, and that at the moment it is quite gimmicky (that horrible word again!)
- the video needs to focus more on the employer and how it benefits them. It currently feels like a pitch
- the idea is great and the colours are great, very vibrant and very dynamic
- can the events be for some greater cause or can what's in the box give more of a taster
- think more on the actual events
We felt really stressed and were rethinking our whole idea so asked Jason to come and see us at the end of class so that we could talk through the feedback we'd received.
Whilst we waited we started thinking about dropping the holgram, and then had to think about what we'd do if we didn't do the hologram video.
We came up with the idea to do 2 videos - one that you land on when you arrive at the web page that acts as the introductory video, and then one that gives more info about the activities.
Then we were thinking about what we'd do with the box - would we need to change it?
We then re thought about Phoebe's feedback and how we could use the box as an intro to us but also as a taster of the first month activity options. So we went back to our activity brainstorm and picked 3 of our favourite activities - campfire night, nerf war, cooking class and thought about how we could introduce those into the box, and came up with the idea to put a mini kitchen utensil, some marshmallows, and nerf bullets in, each with tags of what the event is We all really liked this idea and so were looking forward to running it by Jason.
Still thinking on the box we realised that the flyer could be an opportunity to explain what the activity is and the benefits of it. This would then be something we could send to them on a monthly basis. Which gives more design opportunities - we were thinking if we were to send these out on a monthly basis in a brightly coloured envelope (think AirNZ Airpoints envelopes that jsut went out in the mail) it would be like the mail they look forward to receiving.
Jason then popped into and we just ran him through what had happened and what we were now thinking. We were pretty much just looking for reassurance about how we had taken the feedback and were planning to move forward.
He was happy with the box and the ideas for that, very happy with the visuals, and agreed that our current video felt too pitch-like, too studio and had very bad sound quality, but was very happy with our plan for moving forward, so we prepared some notes for the activity video and actually finished class feeling relatively ok again despite earlier stress.
